Wanda Döhring

Wanda "Wally" Döring (birth name Wanda Hoffmann , born September 9, 1922 ; † August 24, 2012 ) was a German employee of the Federal Rehabilitation Association , who was honored many times for this activity.

Life

Wanda Döhring was married to Heinz Döhring, who was impaired due to a brain injury sustained in World War II. Her husband was chairman of the Unterlahn district association since it was re-established in 1950 and chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional association in the federal rehabilitation association from 1963 to 1965. She was the nurse and companion for her husband. Since he was unable to obtain a driver's license due to his permanent brain injury, when he became state chairman in 1963, she drove him from her home town of Flacht to the state office in Vallendar every day until his early death in 1965 and picked him up again and did his paperwork. After his death, she took over the district chairmanship in Unterlahn, which she held until 2009, when her own eye disease no longer enabled her to continue working. At times she was also the district chairman of the district associations Rhein-Lahn and Altenkirchen-Westerburg-Montabaur. She was also treasurer of the regional association until 2009.

In the federal association she was federal women's representative. In this office, she was the point of contact throughout Germany for the specific problems of the partners and also those affected when dealing with disabilities.

She received various awards for her commitment. At the federal level, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class. She was awarded the Medal and Order of Merit by the Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate . She received all high awards from the Rehabilitation Association, including the "BDH Cup of Honor".

Wanda Döhring had two daughters and was a multiple grandmother and great-grandmother.
