Wanda Makuch-Korulska

Wanda Makuch-Korulska (born October 12, 1919 in Warsaw ; † April 1, 2007 ibid) was a Polish neurologist , professor at the Warsaw Medical University and fighter in the Polish Resistance from 1939 to 1945. She was named Righteous by the Yad Vashem Memorial excellent among the peoples .

Life

Makuch-Korulska graduated from high school in 1938 and began studying medicine at the Medical Faculty of Warsaw University . During the Second World War she instructed military preparation courses for women for underground combat. During the German occupation of Poland , she worked with the Polish Home Army (Polish: Armia Krajowa , AK), with whose Order of Merit she was awarded in London , and also took part in the Warsaw Uprising .

In 1947 she completed her medical studies and received her doctorate in 1952 at the Neurological Clinic of the Medical Academy in Warsaw under Adam Opalski with the work Objawy neurologiczne w chorobie Cushinga (Neurological symptoms in Cushing's syndrome ).

For many years in post-war Poland , Makuch-Korulska was a mentor for the students at the Neurological Clinic of the Medical Academy in Warsaw and a medical officer for the US Embassy in Poland.

In 1994 she was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal by the Yad Vashem Memorial for the Saving of Jews.
