Wang Lan (Chinese for simplified : 王兰, traditionally : 王蘭) is a Chinese artist and fashion designer from Guizhou Province , China , where she grew up with roots in the Miao culture, an ethnic minority . As usual in China, the surname Wang is prefixed. In German spelling, the name would be Lan Wang. In addition to her artistic activities, she also works as a fashion designer. She has already imparted her knowledge in the field of Chinese embroidery several times at Textile Art Berlin in workshops.

biography

She received her training in traditional, classical ink painting at the Art College of the Minority Institute of Guizhou Province and at the Shanghai Art Academy . While she lived in China, her work was shown in various solo and group exhibitions. She published the illustrated book "A Collection of Artistic Works by Wang Lan" Shanghai Books Publishing House, 1993. She has lived in Germany since the late 1990s. She enrolled at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, where she studied textile and fashion design and graduated with a diploma in 2003. During her studies she took part in the exhibition “Inside” in Kassel and took part in the 2002 Documenta 11 in the performance “A Red Star Crossing Europe” organized by Chinese artists . She also exhibited in the Vellmar Town Hall Gallery. Since 2007 she has been living as a freelance artist in Berlin . In the past few years she has regularly participated in exhibitions , mostly in Berlin.

Since 2016, Wang has been a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Berlin (bbk) and GEDOK Berlin, as well as Vice-Chair of the Bambus Gate Society for German-Chinese Cultural Exchange Berlin. 2017 - Visiting Professor at the Art College of Minority Institute of Guizhou Province and Visiting Professor at Tongren University of Guizhou Province.
