Wang Wei (archaeologist)

Wang Wei (born May 1954 in Changchun , Jilin Province) is a Chinese archaeologist. He is the director of the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IA CASS).

Life

Wang studied archeology at Jilin University and earned his BA in 1982. He then entered a research position at the Department of Archeology of Xia , Shang and Zhou Archeology at the IA CASS. In addition to his research, he is also a lecturer in archeology at Jilin University. For his writing The Yamatai State and the Wo Regime in Ancient Chinese Texts , he received the title Doctor of Humanity from Kyushu University in 1995 . In 1996 he received his PhD at the CASS with a dissertation on the spread of metallurgy in East Asia ( Dongya diqu gudai tieqi he yetieshu de chuanbo yu jiaoliu ). With his doctorate he was also appointed head of his department. In 1997 he received the title of Professor and the rank of CASS Outstanding Middle-aged / Young Scholar .

Wang is currently director of the IA CASS. In addition, he heads numerous research groups and institutes as well as other functions related to the management of the IA CASS. He is editor of Kaogu , member of the State Advisory Committee on Higher Education, visiting professor at Beijing and Xiamen Universities .
