Wang Zhenwei

Zhenwei Wang ( Chinese  王振威 , Pinyin Wáng Zhènwēi ; born October 20, 1995 ) is a Chinese actor and martial artist. He is best known for his role as Cheng in the movie The Karate Kid .

Life

Zhenwei Wang is ChaoGuo's youngest child. His family was originally from Handan , Qiuxian , Hebei, China, but his father brought him to Beijingto get a better education for him. At the age of four and a half, his father sent him to the Beijing Shenshahai / Beijing Shichahai Amateur Sports School because, in his father's opinion, he was weak and sickly. Zhenwei was very focused while practicing. After years of hard work and effort, Zhenwei won high praise from the wushu industry for his determination and solid foundation in martial arts. Zhenwei received numerous awards in national competitions at a young age. After training at the Beijing Shenshahai / Beijing Shichaha Amateur Sports School for three and a half years, his father sent him to Haidian High School and began learning the national Wushu routines.

Karate kid

In July 2009, the search for actors for the Hollywood film The Karate Kid began . Those responsible were looking for a childhood martial artist for the shooting. The deputy director of the film team and Jackie Chan's assistant held auditions at several martial arts schools in China. Ten thousand selected people attended the audition at the Beijing Film Academy . The choices were very strict: fluent English, Wushu skills, looks, facial expressions, and even control over expressions were tested. After a difficult selection process, Zhenwei was finally able to win the role of Cheng in Karate Kid.

While filming he suffered a head injury that required four stitches. While hunting Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith ), he slipped and hit his head on an oil drum. In addition, he received other minor injuries.
