Waningus
Waningus or Vaneng (* year unknown in Rouen , † around 688) was a nobleman and royal official under Chlothar III. , later he founded the Fécamp monastery and became a monk and abbot himself.
Waningus was an influential advisor at the neustrian royal court under the Merovingian Chlothar III. and thus belongs to the environment of Audoenus von Rouen . It is said that Saint Eulalia of Barcelona appeared to him in a dream and told him how difficult it was for rich people to get to heaven. Thereupon he gave up his worldly possessions and founded the Fécamp nunnery. He himself became a monk and went to a monastery that can no longer be identified today, of which he later became abbot.
A later version of the Vita des Heiligen Wandregisel also mentions his participation in the founding of the Abbey of Saint-Wandrille . His son Desiderius von Fontenelle also entered the monastery of Saint-Wandrille as a monk.
In the Catholic Church, January 9th is the day of remembrance for him.
