history

The city's coat of arms was awarded to the city on October 28, 1880 by the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg-Schwerin Ministry of the Interior.

After the coat of arms was revised by Carl Teske in 1884 , the city was given a coat of arms designed by the draftsman Hans Herbert Schweitzer by the imperial governor in Mecklenburg , which was declared invalid after the end of the Second World War . According to its official blazon, it showed "In gold on a green three-hill a green fir tree with a red trunk on which a silver-armored red lion rises".

In 1995 the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick made a new drawing based on the coat of arms of Carl Teske. This new drawing was entered in September 1995 under the number 90 in the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Foundation of the coat of arms

The history of the city is reflected in the coat of arms of Lübenheen. Mallets and irons as mining symbols stand for the gypsum works operated in Lübheen and the mining of potash salt . The red lion rising from the green fir tree is a talking coat of arms of the Counts of Dannenberg, referring to the former sovereigns of the area.
