Waqar Younis is a former Pakistani cricketer and former Test - and ODI - captain of the Pakistan national team . Waqar, a right-handed bowler , is considered one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He is also the former coach of the national team of Pakistan.
childhood and education
Waqar Younis was born in Vehari, Punjab into a Jat family . He went to school in Bahawalpur but grew up in the United Arab Emirates . When he was 18, he went back to Pakistan to play cricket. Younis has been working as a cricket commentator for Nine Network in Australia and for Ten Sports in the UAE since retiring.
International career
First beginnings
Waqar Younis began his career in first class cricket in the 1987/88 season in Pakistan. However, he sustained a career-threatening injury. However, he was able to continue his career. He was discovered by Imran Khan and made his national team debut after having played only six first-class matches.
National career
Waqar Younis also played English county cricket for Surrey . Waqar Younis won the County Championship with Glamorgan in the 1997 season.
International career
Younis made his international debut against India in 1989 , as did Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar . Because of his bowling, Younis got the nickname Burewala Express Waqar Younis formed a dangerous duo with Wasim Akram. In 2000 he got into an argument with Wasim Akram and left the national team for a short time. Younis was named national team captain upon his return. Waqar Younis was accused of ball-tampering in 2002 and was banned from an ODI. Younis was the first ever cricketer to be banned for ball tampering. Younis was again accused of unsportsmanlike conduct during the 2003 Cricket World Cup . In April 2004, Younis announced the end of his career.
Coaching
Waqar Younis initially worked for a short time from 2006 as a bowling coach for Pakistan. After differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board , he resigned as bowling coach in 2007. In 2010 he was appointed national coach of Pakistan. In April 2016 he announced his retirement as national coach.
