War Metal , also known as War Black Metal or Bestial Black Metal , is a cacophonic, aggressive and chaotic sub - genre of Black Metal .
Emergence
The style emerged in Finland and North America in the late 1980s and early 1990s from elements of early death metal (influenced by groups like Sarcófago ), thrash metal (particularly inspired by Sodom and Possessed ), hardcore punk and the early representatives of black metal. Archgoats Jesus Spawn from 1991 is considered the first release in the genre .
style
Typical instrumentation is electric guitar , drums , bass guitar and vocals, but synthesizers and keyboards are also common. The electric guitar is often tuned a bit lower than in Black Metal, more like Death Metal. The drums act with fast blast beats , but are also played at medium tempo. The vocals in War Metal differ from the typical Black Metal screeching and are more barking and deep, similar to the guttural shouting in Death Metal. The rock-hard journalist Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann describes the style as wild and hammering.
