Archgoat is a black metal band from Turku , Finland.

history

Archgoat was founded in 1989 by Angelslayer, Ritual Butcherer and Blood Desecrator. The first demo Jesus Spawn appeared in 1991. In 1992, the band got a recording contract with Necropolis Records , where they released the mini-LP Angelcunt (Tales of Desecration) in 1993. When she wanted to record her debut album, there were difficulties with the record company and the band broke up.

In 2004 the band reunited. The drums no longer played Blood Desecrator, but Leneth the Unholy Carnager. The material, recorded in 1993, was released in 2004 in the form of the EP Angelslaying Black Fucking Metal via Hammer of Hate Records. In 2005 the first appearance since the reunification followed in Kouvola . Leneth was then replaced by Sinister K. Their debut album Whore of Bethlehem was released in 2006. The band's second studio album, which was released on February 9, 2009, is called The Light-Devouring Darkness . The best-of album The Aeon of the Angelslaying Darkness was released in 2010 as a 2-CD and 2-LP. Another EP called Heavenly Vulva (Christ's Last Rites) was released on October 14, 2011.

Music genre

Ritual Butcherer has roots in Grindcore and Death Metal as well as early Black Metal. Archgoat mixed the speed of Sarcófago with the severity of Celtic Frost and added the tempo changes of Carcass . The founding members were intrigued by the dark texts of Venom , Possessed, and Hellhammer and, as a result, increasingly read satanic literature. For Ritual Butcherer Black Metal, the musical extension of his philosophy and an understanding of Satanism is essential for Black Metal. Archgoat represents the ideology of the members and they represent the ideology of Archgoat, which is traditional Satanism.

Archgoat is compared to groups like Blasphemy and Beherit , which Kez Whelan of the Terrorizer calls undeniable influences. Nevertheless Archgoat is not so chaotic, their sound is a bit thicker and has more Death Metal influence, which is clear from "both the belched vocals and the completely rancid groove that underpins songs like 'Grand Luciferian Theophany'". Robert Müller from Metal Hammer referred to them as “Black Thrashers ”, who “practice like a textbook how black 80's Metal 2010 can be”. According to Götz Kühnemund from Rock Hard, on the EP Heavenly Vulva (Christ's Last Rites) there are not only "blasphemy-like mega-shot [...]" slow, ultra-hard, catchy riffs (which sometimes look like a mean slow-motion version of the old bolt thrower) or Carcass work) their way into the deep black of the typical ARCHGOAT sound. This is, of course, unbearable for the wimp, but it is a top cult for the tousled bully like Wolf or Jan. "
