Grave Desecrator is a Brazilian black and death metal band from Rio de Janeiro that was formed in 1998.

history

The band was founded in 1998 by guitarist Élson Bueno aka Valak Necrogoat and singer F. Mordor. Both had previously worked together in other bands. The line-up was expanded shortly afterwards by bassist Rafael "Butcherazor" Guimarães. Many musicians were interested in the post of drummer, but no suitable cast was found. On October 31, 2001, Demo 01 was recorded with session drummer Leonardo Pagani and published on Swords and Leather Records with a circulation of around 1,000. The band was not active live because there was still no permanent drummer for the band. With the help of the drummer Gustavo "Adrameleck" Belo, the EP Cult of Warfare and Darkness was recorded in 2003 and released on the German label Ketzer Records with a circulation of 500. The EP was released as an audio cassette with bonus test recordings on the Brazilian label Hellspike Records . A little later the band had internal problems, but returned in early 2006 with the recordings of their debut album Sign of Doom , which was released in 2008 on Ketzer Records. The mixing was done in Brazil by Leonardo Pagani, the mastering was done by Andy Classen in Germany in the Stage One Studios . Shortly after the recordings, F. Mordor got into conflicts with the other members, whereupon he left the band. The bassist Guimarães then played the electric guitar and took over the vocals, while Bueno now took his position. Renato "Black Sin and Damnation" Varjolo was hired as a further guitarist. In 2010 the EP Primordial and Repulsive joined the US label Hells Headbangers Records . Shortly thereafter, a split release with Catacumba followed on the German label Necromancer Records . Towards the end of the year they went on tour through Europe before the second album Insult was released on Hells Headbangers Records for North and South America and on Ketzer Records for Europe. In mid-2016, Season of Mist followed up with the album Dust to Lust .

style

Rock Hard's Manedy Malon described the band's music as a mix of black and death metal. In an interview with her, Élson Bueno stated that the group was influenced by European black metal around 2001. In the meantime they are trying to create their own style. Metal is a tool for the band to express rebellion, to address their visions on occultism and Satanism and their anti-religious views. Malon had reviewed Dust to Lust two issues previously . Then there is black and death metal with aggressive blastbeats and chaotic grooves . However, the drums often sound triggered . Then there would be the "fat guitar tracks" and a deep, powerful vocals. The song structures and beats are varied. Martin Wickler from Metal Hammer wrote in his review of Dust to Lust that the album is suitable for fans of Sarcófago and the early Sepultura . For him it is “an anachronism that has become sound , an unwavering clinging to times long past when the Thrash scene mutated inexorably towards Death Metal for the first time”. The songs are mostly very simple, the drumming is rather simple and the electric guitars are reduced to the bare essentials. The guitar solos would be reminiscent of Kerry King .
