Ward LaFrance Truck Corporation was an American manufacturer of commercial and military vehicles .
history
Ward LaFrance was founded in 1916 by Addison Ward LaFrance. Addison Ward LaFrance worked for the commercial vehicle manufacturer American LaFrance before the First World War . The Addison Ward LaFrance Corporation was initially a dealer for American LaFrance vehicles.
In 1918 the company started producing its own vehicles. It ran for decades. It was known, among other things, for its widespread fire engines. The company was dissolved in 1979 or 1990, depending on the source.
In addition to fire engines, the company mainly built other special vehicles: tow trucks for tanks for the American military, special delivery vans for UPS and other forwarding companies, construction site vehicles and chassis that served as the basis for buses and sometimes also rail vehicles.
