Wardruna is a musical project to explore and awaken the memory of “Nordic spirituality and wisdom” and the runes of the elder Futhark . The project was started in 2003 by Einar "Kvitrafn" Selvik together with Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella.
The project released the album Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga in 2009 , based on eight of the runes. The second album Runaljod - Yggdrasil was released in March 2013 , which is also based on eight runes. In October 2016, Ragnarok , the last album of the Runaljod trilogy, was released, which is based on the remaining eight runes.
In 2014 it was announced that Wardruna would be part of the soundtrack for the second season of the Canadian-Irish television series Vikings . On January 22nd, 2015, Wardruna and the Canadian artist Anilah released a joint adaptation of Anilah's track Warrior as Warrior (Revisited) after an intensive year-long collaboration .
The fifth album, entitled Kvitrafn, is slated for release on January 22nd, 2021.
