Life

Einar Selvik started playing drums as a child. As a teenager he began to be interested in Norse mythology and runes .

Selvik is a believer in modern paganism : “I am a strong advocate of individual responsibility. Nobody died for my sins. This is slightly pagan thought: the gods help those who help themselves. It reflects that you are your own God, that it is your responsibility how you behave, what you contribute in this world. "

Furthermore, the Norwegian artist is very interested in Old Norse literature and the Skaldic poetry , which also influence his music.

He lives in Bergen with his family.

Musical career

1995–2002: First bands like Mortify and Bak de Syv Fjell

As a teenager, Selvik played in various metal bands.

2002-2004: Gorgoroth

Einar Selvik was known under the name Kvitravn as a drummer for Gorgoroth and played there with Gaahl , who later became a member of Wardruna. Selvik had no personal relationship with this music and even then he had the vision of a project like Wardruna.

From 2003: Wardruna

Einar Selvik founded the Nordic folk band Wardruna . The music project aims to reawaken the North Germanic religion and the wisdom of the runes . In the album trilogy Runaljod, the 24 runes of the elder Futhark are musically reproduced. In 2018 Selvik released the album Skald.

Since the music of Einar Selvik and Wardruna can be heard in the internationally known TV series Vikings, Wardruna has grown in popularity since then. As a result, the Pagan-Folk genre has been experiencing a resurgence since the 2010s. As a result, other music groups such as Healing , Faun and Forndom also gained a higher degree of awareness.
