Goods: New Town Hall

Originally, the city was in the area of the St. Georgen Church, built around 1273. Since 1292 goods were referred to as " civitas " (town charter) and from 1331 as " oppidum " (smaller town).

At the Old Market - today: Old Market 14 - the first town hall has been located since the early 15th century. The old town hall was a two-storey brick building with arcades on the east gable, which served as a court arbor.

A little later the new town was built, which was united with the old town around 1325. The second town hall was built in the middle of the Neuer Markt, which now assumed the central position.

In 1699, after the last city fire, the city practically had to be rebuilt.

The third, three-story “New Town Hall” was built from 1791 to 1797 in the historicizing Tudor Gothic style . The corners of the plastered building were emphasized by slim, turret-like struts. The surrounding crenellated crown completes the hipped roof and is interrupted on the long sides by two additional fial towers . An open arcade is on the right.

In 1857 the town hall was significantly expanded.

When the city was shot at in the course of the Kapp Putsch in 1920 , the town hall was also hit. The bullet on the back of the building is still preserved today.

The New Town Hall was renovated around 1997 as part of general urban renewal . The city administration is now on the western edge of the old town.
