Warner William Westenra, 2nd Baron Rossmore, 1st Baron Rossmore (born October 14, 1765 , † August 10 or December 10, 1842 ) was a British nobleman and politician.

Life

He was the eldest son of Henry Westenra and his wife Harriet, daughter of Irish MP John Murray. He attended the Oswestry School and then Trinity College in Dublin . In 1800 he was a member of the Irish House of Commons . After the Irish was incorporated into the British Parliament in 1801 , due to the Act of Union 1800 and the accompanying unification of Great Britain and Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , Westenra, a supporter of this union, represented the constituency of County Monaghan until August 6, 1801 now in the British House of Commons .

His departure from the House of Commons was due to the fact that he succeeded Robert Cuninghame, 1st Baron Rossmore as 2nd Baron Rossmore in the Peerage of Ireland on August 6, 1801 . His wife Elizabeth, Lady Rossmore, was his maternal aunt. The title had been created with a special succession regulation, according to which it could also fall to the nephews of his wife due to the lack of sons of the first baron.

As Lord, Westenra wished to become Irish Representative Peer in the House of Lords like the first Baron Rossmore . However, this wish remained unfulfilled. He also held the office of Custos Rotulorum of County Monaghan , as well as that of Lord Lieutenant of County Monaghan. In 1838, Westenra was given the title of Baron Rossmore again, this time in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . As such, he was still a member of the House of Lords after all.

On October 3, 1791 he married Mary Anne Walsh († August 12, 1807). The marriage resulted in six sons and one daughter. On June 3, 1819, he married Lady Augusta Charteris Wemyss, the daughter of Francis Charteris, Lord Elcho . When he died in 1842, his eldest son Henry inherited the title. Another son, John Craven Westenra , later also became a Member of the House of Commons.
