The container ship type built as Warnow CV 2500 is one of the most built German series in the 2500 TEU segment with 19 units built for various German shipping companies. The in-house development of the Warnowwerft was the first series that was built at the Warnowwerft since the restructuring and modernization.

The design was developed by the Kvaerner Warnow shipyard , Warnemünde. Based on this, the Aker 1700 was created at the shipyard . The construction costs per ship amounted to approx. 37 million euros and all ships of this type were certified by Germanischer Lloyd.
The construction type was designed as a container ship with a deckhouse far aft. The container capacity was initially 2468 TEU and later was 2524 TEU. In the case of homogeneously loaded 14-ton containers , it is still 1886 TEU. The ships have three holds that are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships were developed for use in areas with poorly developed port infrastructure and are therefore each equipped with three NMF cranes, each with a capacity of 45 tons, arranged amidships . A characteristic of the CV-2500 type is the joint support of the front and middle crane. The ships are equipped with freefall lifeboats arranged at the stern .
The propulsion of the ships consists of a 7L70MC two-stroke diesel engine with an output of around 19,800 kW, manufactured by the Spanish manufacturer IZAR or the Korean manufacturer HSD under license from MAN B&W. The engine acts directly on a fixed propeller supplied by Mecklenburger Metallguss and does not have a shaft generator . The engine type enables a service speed of around 20 knots and a top speed of almost 22 knots. Four auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are also available. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
The ships of this type are intended both as large feeder ships and for liner services. With their three 45-tonne on-board cranes, they can also call at ports without land-based handling facilities. Due to their comparatively shallow draft, the ships are also suitable for the relatively shallow harbors on the east coast of South America.
