The shipping company goes back to Oskar Wehr, who was born in Koblenz in 1921. After years of apprenticeship in coastal shipping , he made the A5 patent in 1943 and founded his own shipping company in 1945. The first ship was the motor sailer Anne, built in 1906 and sunk in 1945 after being hit by a bomb in Hamburg . The ship was first acquired and lifted in 1945, repaired by 1947 and then employed in coastal shipping. In 1954, Dörte , built in 1919, was acquired and operated as Helga Wehr from 1957 . Also in 1957 came the first new building of the company that the shipyard Series Type A of Sietas counting coaster Jürgen Wehr . Mid-1960s, the shipping company operated four ships and founded in 1967 to ship management Oskar Wehr KG in Hamburg-Altona.

In 1968 the Scheepswef Hoogezand in Bergum took over the shipping company's first semi-container ship , the 63 TEU Janne Wehr , followed in 1970 by the Hartford Express (184 TEU), a somewhat larger semi-container ship from the Meyer shipyard and, in 1974, the first from the Sietas shipyard 280 TEU full container ship , which was also christened Janne Wehr . In the 1980s, larger ships replaced some older and smaller units, and from the mid-1990s a fleet expansion began, including, for example, series of container ships of the types Stocznia Szczecińska B-170 (nine units), CC 2500 / Warnow CV 2500 (six units ) or VW 2500 (two units). In the late 1990s came up with the ship management of four Panamax - bulk carriers added another division, which was later expanded by additional bulk.

Today (as of April 18, 2012) the shipping company operates a fleet of 32 bulk carriers and container ships. In addition, the company also works in chartering, ship brokerage and the management of foreign ships.

Since around the early 1990s, the ships of the shipping company Wehr have had an oblique yellow stripe with a blue hull painting on both sides of the forecastle.
