Warren Lyford DeLano

Warren Lyford DeLano (born June 21, 1972 in Philadelphia , USA; † November 3, 2009 in Palo Alto ) was an American bioinformatician .

biography

DeLano was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Palo Alto. He graduated from Yale University with a degree in Computer Science and Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 1993. He then moved to the University of California (UCSF) to do his doctorate there . He received his PhD from the University of California in 1999. His doctoral thesis received the Julius Krevans Award for the best doctoral thesis of the year at UCSF and was published in Science . In 2000 he published the first version of PyMOL on the Internet. From 2003 he sold the program under his company DeLano Scientific LLC . Warren L. DeLano died unexpectedly on November 3, 2009 at his home in Palo Alto.
