Coordinates: 31 ° 26 '  S , 149 ° 28'  O Warrumbungle Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 12,372.1 km² and has about 9,400 inhabitants.

Warrumbungle is located in the north-western region of the state about 420 km northwest of the metropolis of Sydney . The area includes 65 hamlets and villages, including Baradine, Barwon, Binnaway, Bomera, Box Ridge, Bugaldie, Cobbora, Coolah , Coonabarabran , Craboon, Dandry, Dunedoo, Goorianawa, Gowang, Kenebri, Laheys Creek, Leadville, Mendooran, Merotherie, Merrygoen , Mollyan, New Mollyan, Napier Lane, Neilrex, Purlewaugh, Rocky Glen, Ropers Road, Tannabar, Teridgerie, Tucklan, Uarbry, Ulamambri, Wattle Springs, Weetaliba, Yarragrin and Yearinan. The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of Coonabarabran in the center of the LGA, where about 2,500 people live.

The Warrumbungle Shire Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Warrumbungle is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
