Warzecha is an old family name of Upper Silesian origin.

Origin and meaning

The name Warzecha is of Slavic origin and literally means "wooden spoon". It is therefore either an indirect job title of the first name bearers (Löffler, Löffelsender, Koch) or an adaptation of an older, pre-existing name (e.g. patronymic form for Warsz ).

Early historical evidence of the name in Upper Silesia are:

From the existence of church book entries (17th century), several land lines can be documented. B. in Groß Döbern , Rosenberg , Leschnitz and Pless .

distribution

The name is particularly common (as it was in early church book entries) in the Opole region. Due to the annexation of Silesia to the Kingdom of Prussia , many bearers of the name migrated to more western areas of the German Empire . In the Federal Republic of Germany, for example, most people with the surname Warzecha can be found in the Berlin area and further north in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
