Wasbank is a place in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is located in the municipality Endumeni Local Municipality in the district umzinyathi district municipality .

In 2011 Wasbank had 1,323 residents. 87% said isiZulu was their first language .

The place is about 25 kilometers southwest of Dundee .

history

Wasbank was named after the Wasbank River that flows past the place and is a tributary of the Sunday River. Wasbank is Afrikaans and means something like "rock outcrop to wash". Until 2016 Wasbank was the administrative seat of the Indaka municipality , which was then merged with the Emnambithi-Ladysmith municipality to form the Alfred Duma municipality in the uThukela district .

Economy and Transport

Wasbank is close to the R602 trunk road, which connects Ladysmith in the south with Glencoe in the north. Wasbank Station is on the Johannesburg - Durban railway line .
