Waschstein (Vilm)

The washing stone is a boulder on the shore of the island of Vilm in the district of Western Pomerania-Rügen . The stone is registered as a geotope at the State Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania under the number G2_092 .

The boulder is located on the west bank of the Mittelvilms, which is designated as a total reserve , and is about 20 meters from the bank in the water of the Greifswald Bodden . The water depth of the site is 0.3 meters. It is made of granite , is 3.8 m long, 2.2 m wide and 2.1 m high. Its volume is given as around 9 m³.

The washing stone is the subject of legends. This is how mermaids were seen on the stone . A swan also picked up babies here to bring them from the washing stone to the houses in the surrounding villages.
