Wasco is a US city in Kern County in the US state of California . It has about 22,500 inhabitants (as of 2004). The urban area has a size of 19.7 km².
history
Initially called Dewey or Deweyville , the city was renamed Wasco in 1900 . The suggestion for the renaming came from a settler named William Bonham of Wasco County, Oregon, who noticed that the name Deweyville was already taken.
