Washington Rodríguez , full name Washington Rodríguez Medina , (born April 6, 1944 in Montevideo , † December 31, 2014 there ) was a Uruguayan boxer .

The 1.59 meter tall, "Cuerito" called Rodríguez took part in the 1963 Pan American Games in São Paulo . There he could not place himself in the medal ranks in the bantamweight class . He was also a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . At the Games in Japan he surprisingly won after victories against Sam An Ek , Jaroslav Slajs and Karimu Young and also unexpectedly for the Comité Olímpico Uruguayo bronze in the bantamweight division, after he had previously been inferior to the eventual Japanese Olympic champion Takao Sakurai on points in the semifinals . He remained Uruguay's last Olympic medalist for 36 years, until the cyclist Milton Wynants won a silver medal for the small South American country at the 2000 Summer Olympics . Rodríguez is (as of January 2, 2015) the only Uruguayan boxer to win a medal at the Olympic Games.

In the second half of the 1960s he worked as a professional boxer. On April 17, 1965 he lost in the Argentine Tostado by knockout against Carlos Cappella . This was followed by five professional fights in his native Montevideo, all of which he won. So he defeated the Argentine Juan Carlos Moreyra in the Palacio Peñarol on December 22, 1965 by technical knockout and on February 2, 1966 Jorge Jesus Flores on points. Two more victories by technical knockout against Dionisio Vilches (August 1, 1968) and Alcides Ferrujo (October 30, 1968) he followed on July 7, 1969, his last fight. He knocked out Martin Lobo in the 10th round and then ended his career.
