Washiqur Rahman Babu

Washiqur Rahman Babu (born June 1, 1988 - March 30, 2015 in Dhaka ; Bengali Ōẇashikur Raḥmān ) was a Bangladeshi civil rights activist and online activist.

life and work

Rahman campaigned for a secular approach to religions in his home country. Rahman made a name for himself on the Internet with religious satire.

death

Rahman wrote a post just days before his death. It said u. a .: "Today is Bangladesh's Liberation Day / The mullah has freedom, extremists have freedom, / Muslims have freedom, the corrupt have freedom, / [...] / Not free: the peasants and workers / Not free: natives and minorities / Not free : Freethinkers / Not free: All those who just want to be human ... ".

Rahman was murdered outside his home in Dhaka. The murderers attended a Koran school.

The case recalls the murder of Avijit Roy five weeks earlier and that of Ahmed Rajib Haider in 2013, both of whom were killed by religious fanatics.
