The Wasp Lake is about 450 m high-lying lake on South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It lies north of Ellerbeck Peak near the base of the Barff Peninsula .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2015 based on the naming of the neighboring mountain. Its namesake is Lieutenant Commander John Anthony Ellerbeck of the Royal Navy , who in the course of the Falklands War on April 25, 1982 as a pilot of a Westland Wasp helicopter from the HMS Endurance after shelling the Argentine submarine ARA Santa Fe at the reconquest of Grytviken was involved.
