Water house

The water house is a historical high water tank in the "Am Schwarzen Morgen" prize on loan yesterday in the central Hessian district of Gießen .

history

The water house was built in 1907 to secure the water supply from loan yesterday. The water was collected in the water house from springs located about 300 meters further east; the quality of the water left a lot to be desired. In 1950 a second, smaller water house was built, which was supposed to ensure a better supply of the Neuhof estate, in 1964 a second well followed on the northern outskirts. This was shut down when the city of Linden was founded in 1973. At that time, the central water supply for the entire region was decided and the water was now drawn from the area around Stadtallendorf . Today the Zweckverband Mittelhessische Wasserwerke in Gießen is responsible for the water supply of the place.

After the water house was no longer used by the loaner yesterday and increasingly fell into disrepair, it was decided to demolish it in 2008. A community of interests and citizens who started a signature campaign and blocked the access to the water house on the day of the planned demolition, however, prevented the implementation of these plans. After it had initially been discussed to rebuild the portal of the old water house at another location, the water house was finally placed under protection as a technical monument . At the same time, the renovation was decided. The door should be adorned with a coat of arms that showed the crane as a water bird and as the heraldic animal of the community on loan yesterday. Typical paving was planned for the forecourt. On Heritage Day 2010 was industrial monument inaugurated. On the occasion of this celebration, a stamp was issued showing the historic water house.

Building

The water house was built from the local lung basalt , which was also used for the Protestant church and for the war memorial on loan yesterday. Its portal wall made of rough cuboids has a round arched entrance. Square blocks form the upper end of the historic building.

There is a walkway behind the entrance door that leads to the anteroom. It is equipped with iron ladders that lead down into four water chambers of equal size. In the anteroom itself, which is separated from the water chambers by a concrete wall, there are still the connections for distributing the water; the rest of the facilities have been dismantled.
