The hydropower plant Altenburg is located in the Reutlingen district Altenburg in the district of Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg . It is a run-of-river power plant of the diversion type power plant . The water required to operate the power plant is diverted from the Neckar by a two-field rifle weir ( Lage ) and flows to the power plant in a 1.1 km long canal .

History and technology

The system was built in 1927 by Emil Adolff GmbH & Co to supply power to the spinning tube and bobbin factory in Reutlingen. What is worth mentioning about the system is the overflow, which is embedded in the canal bed just before the power station. Two Francis twin turbines are used . The system has a drop height of 4.7 m and the output is 970 kW. In 1993 the plant was taken over by the Wasserkraftwerk Altenburg GbR and renovated.
