The Mühlbach hydropower plant is located in Mühlbach ( South Tyrol ) and is operated by Eisackwerk GmbH. A special feature of the power plant is the vertical pressure line, which at 440 meters was the longest vertical pressure line in Europe at the time of construction. It was put into operation on November 22, 2012 after 19 months of construction. The annual production is around 100 million kWh .

history

A first power plant at this location was built in 1941 and expanded in 1950 and has since been operated by the state energy company ENEL . The two pressure pipelines (49 and 62 bar) that ran through the middle of the village of Mühlbach were characteristic. In 2009 the license was awarded to the private Eisackwerk GmbH by resolution of the South Tyrolean provincial government, which was a novelty in South Tyrol.

technical features

The power plant actually consists of two power plants (which is why the two pressure pipelines also moved), as the water with which the power plant is fed comes from two valleys, the Valler Tal and the Pfunderer Tal , and also in two separate pressure maintenance basins at 1215 and 1250 respectively. 1350 meters above sea level is collected. The entire catchment area is around 109 km². The newly constructed pressure pipeline leads 440 meters deep from the two pressure retention basins into an underground turbine hall, which was accessed through an 850 meter long horizontal tunnel from the village of Mühlbach.

The fine screens at the two water catchments are also a special feature, as separate desanding systems are no longer necessary.
