Watermill Alt-Mühlendorf

The watermill Alt-Mühlendorf is a watermill in the district Alt-Mühlendorf of the municipality Warder in the German state Schleswig-Holstein .

history

The mill draws the water to generate electricity from Wardersee , Brahmsee , Pohlsee , Lustsee and Borgdorfer See with a total of around 3 km 2 of water. The usable gradient is around two meters. In addition, the hydropower plant regulates the level of the first four lakes.

It is assumed that Alt-Mühlendorf has had a water mill since at least the first mention of the place in 1271, which was used as a grain and wage mill . In the now well-preserved mill from 1860, electrical energy was generated from hydropower for the first time during the classic mill operation in 1913. A DC generator operated a battery, from which the light requirements for the owner of the mill and his neighbors were covered. In 1949 the system was converted to three-phase current and the power supply company Schleswag fed the electricity not required for its own use into its network.

Since 1971 the turbine has been driving a generator of 23 kilowatts, with which the mill owner's annual needs could be covered almost entirely from the operation of the hydropower plant. In 1992 the water mill was sold to Schleswag ( E.ON Hanse ).

Power generation

In 2003 the system fed a total of around 30,500 kilowatt hours and in 2004 around 42,000 kilowatt hours into the power grid. In 1996 it was only 5,400 kilowatt hours due to lower rainfall in summer.

Others

By order of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Schleswig-Holstein on October 4, 2005, the watermill was entered in the monument book for cultural monuments from historical times and is therefore under monument protection.
