location
The WVS club area is located on the Süderelbe at river kilometer 615, seen downstream on the right behind the old Harburg Elbe bridge . At the boathouse of the WVS there is a DKV canoe station , which offers overnight accommodation while hiking in the water .
history
The WVS was founded in 1921 as the Aussenmühle water sports club. There is still a second boathouse on the Harburg Aussenmühlenteich, which now serves as a base for the youth group and the canoe polo group. The first hiking trips were undertaken from there by transporting the self-constructed boats made of wood and canvas to the Seeve by handcart. The step to the Elbe was made through a cooperation with Harburg sailors, where a boathouse was built in 1927. In 1930 the name was changed to WV Süderelbe. Several boathouses for various reasons (new bridges, war damage, enlargement) followed. The current boathouse in Süderelbe was built in 1981/82.
