history
The water sports friends Liblar were founded on December 1st, 1960 as a loose community after the opencast mine of the "Grube Liblar" was closed and the remaining lake could be used as Liblarer See ("Lido"). The first preparations took place at a meeting on May 29, 1960, the first chairman was Rudolph Anton. Thanks to the initiative of Rudolph Anton, rooms were made available in the Gracht Palace for building boats.
On February 13, 1966 a new statute was drawn up and an application was made for entry in the register of associations at the Lechenich District Court . On December 19, 1966, it was registered as a club at the local court as Water Sports Friends Liblar 1960 eV In 1966 the club received a plot of land on Lake Liblar, on which the clubhouse and sports facilities were built in the following years. In 1970 a boathouse for a total of 70 boats was built and in 1972 the clubhouse was officially inaugurated in the presence of Mayor Werner Tiemann . Until 1978 the association concentrated on pure leisure activities, competitive sport was not part of the activities until this year.
In 1978 the association became a member of the German Canoe Association (DKV), the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (LSB NRW) and the Erftstadt City Sports Association. In the club, two adults and five young people began to participate in white water sports as competitive athletes. The training now took place on the Liblarer See and the surrounding waters in the teaching pool in Bliesheim and at the Sports University in Cologne . In 1982 the association took part in the DKV meeting in Woffelsbach , and in 1984 the youth group won the DKV's hiking award in District IV Cologne-Bonn-Aachen. Of the 90 club members in 1985, 50 were active in sports.
Since 1989, the sports department of the club has concentrated on canoe polo and set up a canoe polo playing field on Lake Liblar. In 1996 the youth team took part for the first time in the German championships in canoe polo and directly won the title of German champion in canoe polo. In 1997 , a young men's team, which had already achieved great success in the youth field, was promoted to the German Canoe Polo Bundesliga . Since then they have been in the first division without interruption. After the team won eighth place in the Bundesliga in 1998 and fourth place in 1999, they became runner-up in 2000 and 2001 and German champion from 2002 to 2006; In 2004 she was also the German Cup Champion.
