Jürgen Malitz

Jürgen Malitz (born January 4, 1947 in Düsseldorf ) is a German ancient historian .

Career

Jürgen Malitz studied history at the University of Freiburg . He has been a member of the Corps Rhenania Freiburg since 1967 . He received his doctorate in Freiburg in 1974. There he was then an assistant and received his habilitation in 1980. From 1990 to 2011 he held the chair for Ancient History at the University of Eichstätt . His main research interests are ancient historiography , the history of the Roman Empire , the history of the Jews in antiquity and the history of classical studies.

Malitz is the founder and, together with Gregor Weber, publisher of the bibliographic database " Gnomon Online ", the " Gnomon Bibliographic Database. International Information System for Classical Antiquity ”and the“ Numismatic Image Database Eichstätt ”. He is also a translator of ancient authors ( Nikolaos of Damascus ). He is also the editor of job registers for the works of Theodor Mommsen . In March 2005 he was one of the first to sign an open letter “ HaGalil must go on!” To the Federal Minister for Family Affairs and the Federal Chancellor. Protests are being made here against the fact that the federal government wants to withdraw from the " Uprising of the decent " project , which is actively involved in the fight against anti-Semitism in Germany.
