The Waterways Directorate , WSD for short , formerly the Federal Electricity Construction Office , was an authority in Austria .

The Federal Electricity Construction Office was founded on January 1, 1928, after the Danube Regulation Commission ceased operations after almost 60 years of existence and was taken over by the federal government .

Her tasks included administration, regulation, maintenance and participation in the expansion of the Danube (including the Vienna Danube Canal ), Enns and Traun in the estuary areas, March and Thaya (to Bernhardsthal). Three waterway administrations ( west : Aschach an der Donau ; center : Krems ; east : Bad Deutsch-Altenburg ) were subordinate to the waterway management for sub-tasks . The waterways directorate also took on the management of the Danube Flood  Protection Competition (DHK) for preventive and defensive measures for harmless flood discharge.

On January 1, 2005, the WSD was  restructured into via donau - Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft mbH, as the maintenance of the Danube tributaries in terms of navigability has largely become obsolete.
