Wassil Gendow , actually Wassil Dimow Hadshigendow ( Bulgarian Васил Гендов , born November 24, 1891 in Sliven , † September 3, 1970 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian director, actor and screenwriter. He is considered a pioneer of Bulgarian film.

Life

He studied at the theater institute in Vienna . In 1915 he made the first Bulgarian film with the comedy The Bulgarian is gallant . Other works followed, mostly not only directing, but also writing the script and acting as the main actor. In 1933 he shot the first Bulgarian sound film with the film The Uprising of the Slaves .
