Vassily Shuisky (also Vasily Vasilievich Schujski , Russian Василий Васильевич Шуйский , † 1538 ) was a Russian nobleman , Prince , Bojar , diplomat , governor , voivod and commander of the Grand Duchy of Moscow from the Rurik sidelines of Schujskis.

Life

Vasily was the Muscovite governor of Novgorod from 1500 to 1506 . In 1502, during his governorship, he led a campaign against the Teutonic Order in neighboring Livonia , but was put to flight by Landmeister Wolter von Plettenberg in the battle of Lake Smolina on September 13th . He also took part in the Muscovite-Lithuanian War 1512–1522 against the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , which led to the fall of Smolensk in 1514 and his appointment as Russian governor of this city in 1514–1517.
