Wassili Wiktorowitsch Filippow ( Russian Василий Викторович Филиппов ; born January 18, 1981 in Moscow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian handball player who currently works as a handball coach.

The 1.83 meter tall and 87 kilogram middle back player started playing handball at the Kunzewo Moscow club and has been under contract with Medvedi Chekhov since it was founded in 2001. With this club he was twelve times champion of Russia from 2002 to 2013 and played in the seasons 2000/2001 to 2012/2013 in the EHF Champions League and in 2005/2006 in the European Cup Winners' Cup . He ended his career after the 2012/13 season.

In 2004 he became student world champion with the Russian team. Vasily Filippov scored 227 goals in 101 international matches for the Russian national team (as of January 2012) and played at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , the 2009 World Cup , and the 2010 and 2012 European Championships .

In the summer of 2017 Filippov took over the coaching position of the Russian first division club GK Spartak Moscow .

Filippov graduated from the Russian State University of Physical Culture in 2004. He is married and has one child.
