Wassyl Zusko

Vasyl Petrovych Zukko ( Ukrainian Василь Петрович Цушко ; born February 1, 1963 in Nadritschne , Tarutyne district in Odessa Oblast ) is a Ukrainian politician. He was Minister of the Interior from December 2006 to September 2007 and Minister of Economy of Ukraine from March to December 2010. In December 2010 he was appointed chairman of Ukraine's highest antimonopoly committee.

biography

Wassyl Zulko was born in the small town of Nadritschne in Odessa Oblast and first graduated from the agricultural vocational school for mechanics and electronics. After his military service in the Soviet army, he studied at the Agricultural Institute in Odessa , where he obtained a degree in economics. He initially held managerial positions in farms.

From 1994 to 2006 he was a member of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada . Initially he was a member of the parliamentary group of the Peasant Party of Ukraine, since 2002 he has been a member of the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU), at times he was also the parliamentary group leader of the SPU in the Rada.

In 2005 he graduated from the Ministry of the Interior with a qualification as a lawyer. From 2005 to 2006 he was chairman of the Odessa regional state administration.

In December 2006, the Rada elected him Minister of the Interior of Ukraine, and in this position, Zukko succeeded Yuriy Lutsenko . In contrast to Lutsenko, Zulko was ready to form a coalition with Viktor Yanukovych's Party of Regions after the parliamentary elections in March 2006 .

At the end of May 2007, during violent internal political disputes in the Ukraine between the then President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yanukovych, Zubko suffered a heart attack and was temporarily treated for medical treatment in Germany. In September 2007 he announced his resignation from the ministerial office for health reasons. Zulko's claim that he was poisoned by political opponents has never been officially confirmed.

After Viktor Yanukovych became President of Ukraine in early 2010 , Zuzko was appointed Minister of Economy of Ukraine in March 2010. In the course of a government reform that went hand in hand with the dissolution of some ministries, he lost this office. From December 2010 he was chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and thus the highest antitrust authority in the country.

From July 2010 to August 2011, Zusatzko was chairman of the Socialist Party of Ukraine.
