What is it? ( Rhenish dialect or Regiolekt for Was ist los? / What is there? ) was a talk show moderated by Jürgen von der Lippe , which was broadcast on WDR television from November 17, 1995 . Initially, the show was 30 minutes long. From October 4, 1996 she took over Das Erste , and the broadcast was extended to 45 minutes. It was broadcast weekly in the late-night program (first Friday 11:45 p.m., later Monday). 188 episodes were produced from 1995 to 2000. Under the title Wat is? - Now New! the show was re-launched in 2005 for five episodes on WDR (Fridays, 9 p.m.).

concept

The concept of wat is? was based on the fact that neither the audience nor the presenter knew beforehand which guests would appear on the show. As in von der Lippe's older program So isses , this resulted in extensive conversations about often curious stories. More than in So isses , cameraman Günter Müller , known as Günni , was involved in the show as a moderator.

The show was nominated for the 1999 Adolf Grimme Prize .
