Waterloo is one of the neighborhoods in Sydney where people on lower incomes live. Unemployment is high at 8.2% (in 2016) and the district is a social hotspot. This Sydney suburb is largely dominated by low-income homes. The houses and public buildings were built in the second half of the 20th century. Today there are social problems in different parts of the suburb, as hardly any business is established there. In the so-called Green Square , a district of Waterloo, an urban renovation has been carried out and numerous post-modern buildings have emerged, which attract investors.
Waterloo can be reached by bus, and Queen Square can be reached by subway from Sydney. In the district there are some church buildings such as the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Waterloo Uniting Church . The Waterloo Urban Conservation Area is a listed area from the 19th century with historical buildings. There is the Waterloo Park for the population for sporty recreation.
