The Watson Peaks are a linear group of mountains in southern Palmerlands on the Antarctic Peninsula . They rise 3 km northeast of the Rivera Peaks in a northwest-southeast orientation over a length of 17.5 km.
The United States Geological Survey mapped them using their own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1968 after the biologist George E. Watson III. (* 1931), who took part in a USCGC Eastwind research voyage from Palmer Station between 1965 and 1966 as part of the United States Antarctic Research Program .
