Watubela ( Indonesian Pulau Watubela ) is one of the Indonesian Watubela Islands that belong to the Moluccas .

geography

Watubela is the third largest of the Watubela Islands. It is located north of Kasiui , the main island of the archipelago. The three villages ( Desa ) are located on Watubela . Ilili on the northern tip, Effa on the west coast and Lahema in the south. To the north is the uninhabited island of Ingar , which administratively belongs to the Desa Ilili.

As part of the sub-district ( Kecamatan ) Wakate , Watubela belongs to the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) Ostseram ( Seram Bagian Timur ) of the province of Maluku .

The coral reefs around the island and the seagrass meadows off Lahema are of ecological interest. They are characterized by a high level of biodiversity .

population

The island of Watubela has 1487 inhabitants (2010). The Watubela ( Wesi ) ethnic group on the island speaks the Austronesian language Watubela . The Watubela are predominantly Muslim, 25% are Christians.
