Wayne Allyn Root

Wayne Allyn Root (born July 20, 1961 in Mount Vernon , New York ) is an American television producer, bestselling author and manager. He was the vice presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party in the US 2008 presidential campaign .

Life

Wayne Root attended Columbia University until 1983 , where he studied political science. One of his fellow students was Barack Obama . He then made a career as a radio and TV producer. He mainly produced and moderated sports programs on American television, which are little known in Germany. He is also the author of various books.

Wayne Root is married to Debra Root, with whom he has four children.

Political career

Originally he was a member of the Republican Party . Then he joined the Libertarian Party. In 2008, he ran for that party's nomination for the presidential election. But he was defeated by Bob Barr . After all, he was a candidate for the vice presidency. However, given the overwhelming power of the two established parties in the United States, his party had no chance in the elections. Root calls for a downsizing of the government apparatus, spending cuts, bureaucracy reduction, tax breaks and more personal freedoms for citizens. He is an advocate of the right to gun ownership . Root is an opponent of the two-party system, which he believes leads to corruption and fraud. He is also in favor of a speedy end to the war in Iraq . His political role models are Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater .

In the election, Barr and Root received 523,686 votes, which corresponds to a share of 0.4 percent. They only finished fourth, behind the independent candidate Ralph Nader .
