Wayne R. Dynes

Wayne R. Dynes (born August 23, 1934 ) is an American author and art historian .

Life

Dynes studied history and art at UCLA in California. After graduating, he was employed as a professor of art history at Hunter College in New York City , where he taught from 1972 to 2005. Dynes made many trips to Europe for his studies. In the 1960s he was a member of the Mattachine Society in New York City. Together with the librarian Jack Stafford, he worked out various biographies on LGBT people. His major books include Homosexuality: A Research Guide from 1987 and his two part book Encyclopedia of Homosexuality (Garland) of 1990, which with the 1991 Editor's Choice Award of the Lambda Literary Award was awarded.
