Weak Aside is a Lower Saxony death metal band from Emden , which was founded in 2006 under the name Spearhead .

history

The band was founded in 2006 by guitarist and singer Tom Zorn, who previously worked for Fearer . The group initially called itself Spearhead, but was renamed Weak Aside in 2007. In the summer of 2007 the group went into the studio to record their debut album Fire at Will before it was released in the spring of 2008. After the line-up had changed several times, work on the second album Ghostleader began , which was finished in late 2009. Then the recordings began, which were then mixed and mastered by Thilo Krieger in the Desert Inn Studio . The sound carrier was released in the summer of 2010 on Remission Records . About half a year after the album was released, the majority of the members left the band. Musicians who were friends from Emden helped out for a year so that the group could continue to play live. Marc Dieken joined the team as the new drummer and Alex Pahl as the new bass player. A little later, Luke Kerk joined the group as the new guitarist. In 2015 the new album The Next Offensive was released .

style

Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard called the music on The Next Offensive Death Metal, which lies between Bolt Thrower and Fearer. Thematically, the album deals with the subject of war. In an interview with Schilling, Tom Zorn stated that the aim here is not to glorify war, but rather to portray the horror of war and how senseless it is. Here you see yourself in the tradition of grindcore bands that have martial lyrics. However, one tries to avoid political statements in the texts. Gretha Breuer had reviewed the album one issue earlier and described the music as simple death metal. She too drew a comparison with Bolt Thrower. Björn Thorsten Jaschinski from Metal Hammer found that the band plays Death Metal on Fire at Will , which is a mixture of “ Jungle Rot and Bolt Thrower attitude with cool solos ”.
