Weberocereus bradei is a species of plant in the genus Weberocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German-Brazilian botanist Alexander Curt Brade (1881–1971), who settled in Brazil in 1910.

description

Weberocereus bradei growing epiphytic with at first ascending and later horizontal or hanging from the base or near the shoot tips branching stems . The shoots are round at their base, flattened above, thick and leaf-like. They are 60 to 100 inches long and 5 to 12 inches wide. The drive edges are slightly wavy and have indentations up to 5 millimeters deep. The tip of the shoot is rounded. The bald areoles on the shoots are located at the base of the indentations. The two to four stone-colored thorns , sometimes more, are needle-like, thickened at their base and 3 to 6 millimeters long.

The bell- to funnel-shaped, cream-colored to white flowers appear near the shoot tips. They are 5.5 to 7 inches long. Their sometimes only slightly spreading bracts are somewhat fleshy. Your pericarpel and tube are bare. The elongated to egg-shaped, smooth, brownish-red fruits are bare. They have a length of 3.5 centimeters. Their pulp is white.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Weberocereus bradei is common in the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica .

It was first described as Eccremocactus bradei in 1913 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in the genus Weberocereus in 1972 . Nomenclatory synonyms are Phyllocactus bradei (Britton & Rose) Vaupel (1913) and Epiphyllum bradei (Britton & Rose) Standl. (1937).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
