Exchange system (weapon)
In weapon technology, especially with semi-automatic handguns , a change system offers the possibility of adapting a further caliber for use with the basic weapon, or the use of a weapon of the same caliber for different sporting disciplines.
technology
The exchange system mainly consists of the barrel with any associated locking aids (control elements ), but there can also be a locking group with the components that trigger the shot ( firing pin , firing pin spring, etc.) and extractor , as well as a magazine group (housing, magazine spring , feeder).
Adaptations
Mainly, basic weapons of a larger caliber with interchangeable systems are adapted to the same or smaller calibers. a. the following options are common:
- Sport pistol
- Caliber .38 to caliber .22 lfB
- Caliber .32 Smith & Wesson Long to caliber .22 lfB
- Utility pistol
- Caliber .45 Winchester Magnum to caliber .45 ACP
- Caliber .45 ACP on caliber 9 mm Luger
- Caliber .45 ACP System Browning on caliber .45 ACP rigid barrel
- Caliber .45 ACP to caliber .22 lfB
- Caliber 10 mm / .40 Auto on caliber 9 mm Luger
- Caliber 9 mm Luger on caliber .22 lfB
- Semi-automatic rifle
- Caliber 7.62 × 39 mm on caliber .22 lfB
- Caliber 7.62 × 51 mm NATO / .308 Winchester on caliber .22 lfB
- Caliber 5.56 × 45 mm NATO / .223 Remington on caliber .22 lfB
If the same grip is used in the .22 lfB caliber version and the .32 caliber version , for example with the Walther GSP sports pistol , the .22 lfB caliber base weapon can also be used with a .32 caliber change system Can be used with a larger caliber.
It may be necessary to use an exchange system for a weapon in the same caliber as the base caliber of the weapon. Reasons for this are provisions on certain barrel lengths to be used or the prohibition of the use of compensated weapons in the various sporting disciplines.
For the use of so-called "room ammunition" (caliber 4 mm M20 ), no interchangeable systems are used, only insert systems consisting of insert barrels and cartridge adapters .
Exchange systems of the same and smaller caliber are usually approved without prior entry or proof of need. The timely notification of the acquisition to the relevant authority is sufficient for entry in the existing gun ownership card .
In Switzerland, according to the Weapons Act , Art. 9b, a weapons acquisition license is required for the acquisition of essential components (breech, barrel).
use
The main purpose of a system to change from large caliber to small caliber , especially with utility pistols and self-loading rifles , is the possibility of inexpensive training with large caliber pistols or training on shooting ranges that are not approved for large caliber shooting .
