Weir plate on a tower

A defense plate or defense platform is the uppermost defense platform of ancient and medieval gates , towers (for example the defense platform of a keep ) and weir keep . The weir plate is a parapet surrounded, mostly with battlements and loopholes is reinforced.

While in warmer regions (for example in the Mediterranean region ) the defense platforms could be open, in Central Europe they were usually covered by a roof (in the case of towers also by a helmet ). The weir plate is mostly reached by a spiral staircase , more rarely by a snail .
