The white-bellied wood warbler ( Basileuterus hypoleucus ) is a small songbird from the wood warbler family (Parulidae).

features

White-bellied wood warbler reach a body length of 12.5 centimeters and weigh around 9.5 grams. The wing length is 5.8 to 6.1 centimeters in the male and 5.5 centimeters in the female. Adult white-bellied wood warbler and young birds from the first year onwards have an orange-red parting stripe with gray tips, black parietal side stripes , white broad superciliar stripes , which are gray from the back of the eyes and run to the neck, and a black eye line that also extends to the nape of the neck enough. The cheek area is gray; the throat plumage white. The upper side plumage is olive green to olive gray; the underside plumage whitish, with faded olive-gray flanks.

Occurrence

The distribution area extends from southern Brazil ( São Paulo ; Minas Gerais ) over northeastern Paraguay (Río Apa; Puerto Pinasco) to southeastern Bolivia . They live in pairs or in small groups in riparian forests, dry deciduous forests in low-lying regions or open landscapes with a lot of trees and dense undergrowth at the edges of the forest, usually below an altitude of 1000 meters. They feed mainly on insects and look for their prey in the lower areas and in the undergrowth. There is no information about the breeding behavior. In the state of Minas Gerais of Brazil, hybridization sometimes occurs with the golden-winged wood warbler ( Basileuterus culicivorus ), which the white-bellied wood warbler is similar to.

They are listed as “Least Concern” by the IUCN .
